Most bifold door prices you'll see online are fitted prices from an installer, with the doors, the labour and the building work rolled into one figure. That makes it hard to tell what the doors themselves cost, or to compare one quote with another. This guide separates the two.
It's for homeowners budgeting for an extension or renovation, and for installers and builders pricing a job. We manufacture aluminium bifold doors from the Cortizo Bifold system at our factory in Leeds and sell them supply-only, to trade and retail customers. We don't install, so every price here is for the doors alone. Your installer or builder quotes the fitting.
The short version
- As a supply-only guide from Mazuli, a standard 3-panel aluminium bifold in a stock colour starts from around £1,800 unglazed.
- Fully glazed with high-performance double glazing, a 3-panel door is typically £2,500–£4,500 and a 5-panel door £4,000–£7,000.
- Panel count and size, glazed or unglazed supply, the glass, the colour, the threshold and add-ons all move the price.
- Installation is a separate cost. Get it quoted by your installer or builder, and check what both quotes include before you compare them.
How much do aluminium bifold doors cost in the UK?
These are our guide prices for Cortizo aluminium bifold doors, supplied without installation:
| Door | Supply-only guide price |
|---|---|
| 3-panel, stock colour, unglazed | From around £1,800 |
| 3-panel, fully glazed, high-performance double glazing | Typically £2,500–£4,500 |
| 5-panel, fully glazed, high-performance double glazing | Typically £4,000–£7,000 |
The ranges are wide because a bifold is made to measure. A 3-panel door can be up to 3,600mm wide and 3,000mm tall. A bigger door uses more aluminium and glass, so it sits higher in the range.
We don't publish guide prices for 2-, 4-, 6- or 7-panel doors. Send us the sizes and we'll quote. The table below shows how width relates to panel count, which is the first thing that sets the price:
| Panels | Maximum overall width | Supply-only guide price |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Up to 2,400mm | Ask for a quote |
| 3 | Up to 3,600mm | From around £1,800 unglazed; £2,500–£4,500 glazed |
| 4 | Up to 4,800mm | Ask for a quote |
| 5 | Up to 6,000mm | £4,000–£7,000 glazed |
| 6 | Up to 7,200mm | Ask for a quote |
| 7 | Up to 8,400mm | Ask for a quote |
Each panel can be up to 1,200mm wide, so the same opening can often be filled with different panel counts. Fewer, wider panels mean less frame, but each panel is heavier.
What does a supply-only bifold price include?
"Supply-only" means you're buying the finished doors, not the work to fit them. From us, that covers:
- The door, made to your sizes. Cut, machined and assembled in our Leeds factory from Cortizo profile, and quality-checked before dispatch.
- Hardware and locking. Multi-point locking, shoot bolts on the intermediate panels, anti-lift blocks and internally beaded glazing come as standard.
- Glass, if you order glazed. Unglazed doors are supplied fully assembled with frames, hardware and locking, ready for glazing on site.
- Delivery. Mainland UK delivery is included, on our own fleet. You get a delivery date when you order.
Cills, head add-ons and extras such as trickle vents or integral blinds are chosen per door, so check they're on the quote if you need them.
It doesn't cover taking out the old doors, forming or altering the opening, fitting, sealing, making good, or the Building Regulations sign-off. Those are your installer's or builder's work, and their price.
What makes bifold doors cost more or less?
Panel count and size
This is the biggest factor. Each extra panel adds a frame, a set of hinges and rollers, and another piece of glass. Height matters too: our panels go up to 3,000mm tall, and a full-height door uses more material than a shorter one. Every panel can weigh up to 120kg, which also affects how your installer prices the handling.
Glazed or unglazed
Unglazed doors cost less from us because the glass isn't included. They suit installers who source their own glass or need a particular type, such as acoustic or self-cleaning, and they're our fastest lead time. The glass still has to be bought and fitted, though, so compare the total, not just the frame price. For a homeowner using a general builder, a glazed door is usually the simpler route.
The glass specification
Our guide prices for glazed doors assume high-performance double glazing. Triple glazing, solar-control coatings, laminated glass and acoustic glass all change the price. The Cortizo Bifold takes glass units from 25mm to 45mm thick, so there's room for most specifications.
Some glass isn't optional. Approved Document K (2013 edition) treats glazing in doors as a critical location: it has to break safely, be robust, or be permanently protected. In practice that means toughened or laminated safety glass in every bifold pane.
Colour
Our seven stock colours have the shortest lead times: White, Agate Grey, Anthracite Grey, Black, and three dual-colour finishes (Agate Grey on White, Grey on White and Black on White). Dual-colour, with a different shade inside and out, comes at no extra charge on stock finishes. Any RAL colour can be ordered and takes around 2 weeks. Woodgrain finishes take 4–6 weeks. Ask for the price in each finish you're considering.
Threshold and cill
There are three threshold options: standard (55mm), low (20mm) and low with rebate (40mm overall). Cills come in 90mm, 150mm, 180mm and 230mm depths, with 20mm and 38mm head add-ons. The choice depends on your floor levels and how exposed the doors are, so settle it with your installer before you order.
Configuration and add-ons
Which way the panels fold, whether there's a traffic door for everyday access, and whether the doors open in or out all go on the order. Add-ons include matching hardware, Georgian bars, trickle vents, integral blinds and a 3-star anti-snap cylinder upgrade. Each one changes the price a little, so list what you want up front rather than adding it later.
How much does it cost to install bifold doors?
We can't give you an installation price. We supply and deliver; we don't survey, measure on site or install. Retail customers use their own builder or installer, and trade customers fit the doors themselves. Fitting costs vary too much by job to give a useful guide, so get them quoted for your opening.
When you ask for an installation quote, check what it covers:
- Removing the old doors or windows, and disposing of them.
- Structural work. A new or widened opening needs a lintel or steel beam designed by a structural engineer and approved by building control. It's priced separately from the doors.
- Measuring. Your installer should measure the finished opening before the order is placed, once any steel is in.
- Glazing on site, if the doors are ordered unglazed.
- Fitting, sealing and making good inside and out, including any drainage channel at the threshold.
- Certification. Replacement doors can be self-certified by an installer registered with a competent person scheme. Otherwise the work has to be notified to building control.
If you're buying the doors yourself, agree with your installer before ordering who measures, who receives the delivery and who glazes, if the doors are coming unglazed.
Do you need triple glazing to meet Part L?
The Building Regulations can decide your glass, and the glass affects the price, so check this before you budget.
In England, Approved Document L, Volume 1 (2021 edition incorporating 2023 amendments) sets a maximum U-value of 1.4 W/m²K for new or replacement doors in an existing home, including doors in an extension. Doors with more than 60% of the internal face glazed, as most bifolds are, can meet a Doorset Energy Rating of Band C instead. The 2026 edition, which takes effect on 24 March 2027, keeps both standards.
Our Cortizo bifolds start from 1.5 W/m²K double glazed (Ug 1.0) and 1.1 W/m²K triple glazed. So if your building control body wants the 1.4 W/m²K figure, budget for triple glazing, or ask about the Doorset Energy Rating route. Whole-door U-values change with size and glass, so ask us for the figure for your actual door before you price it.
The extension glazing limit
If the doors are going into an extension, paragraph 10.7 of Approved Document L limits the total area of windows, rooflights and doors to 25% of the extension's floor area, plus the area of any windows and doors the extension removes or covers. Large bifolds often take an extension over that. It can still be approved, by showing the extension performs as well as a compliant one (paragraph 10.9) or with a full SAP calculation (paragraph 10.10). Either may mean paying an energy assessor, or upgrading the glass, walls or roof. Our guide to aluminium bifold doors has a worked example.
What should a bifold door quote include?
Two quotes for "a 4-panel bifold" can describe quite different doors. Before you compare prices, make sure each quote states:
- The system and who makes it. Which aluminium system it is, and who actually fabricates the doors.
- The exact sizes, panel count, fold direction, traffic door and whether it opens in or out.
- The whole-door U-value (Uw) for that size and glass, not the centre-pane glass figure (Ug).
- The glass: double or triple, safety glass type, any coatings, or whether it's unglazed.
- The colour inside and out.
- The threshold and cill, and any head add-ons.
- The locking specification, and whether the system has passed PAS 24 testing. The Cortizo bifold system has.
- Delivery and whether it's included.
- VAT, and whether the price includes it.
- Lead time, and when you'll get a delivery date.
- The guarantee: what it covers, for how long and on what conditions.
If an installer's fitted quote doesn't split the doors from the labour, ask them to. Then you can check the door specification against a supply-only quote. We price-match comparable like-for-like quotations, so send yours to sales@mazuli.co.uk.
Is it cheaper to buy bifold doors at trade?
There are three common ways to buy aluminium bifolds:
- Fitted, from an installer. The installer buys the doors from a fabricator and quotes you one price for supply and fit. It's the simplest route, and the installer takes responsibility for measuring and the finished job.
- Supply-only, as a homeowner. You buy the doors direct from a manufacturer like us and have your own builder or installer fit them. You see the door price on its own and choose the specification yourself, but you need someone to measure accurately and be ready for delivery.
- At trade, as an installer or builder. You buy on an account at trade prices and fit the doors yourself.
Our trade accounts have no minimum order value and no lengthy application process. We set accounts up the same day and send a bespoke trade price list within hours. Pricing is volume-based, so it improves as you order more, and every account has a dedicated trade account manager. Our guide to buying aluminium windows and doors at trade covers what to look for in a supplier.
Is the cheapest bifold quote the best value?
Not always. Three things that don't show on the price can cost you later:
Lead time
Most UK aluminium fabricators quote 3–6 weeks. While you wait, an extension may sit boarded up, and a builder may have to come back for a second visit. We make ours in-house in Leeds:
| Order | Lead time |
|---|---|
| Unglazed, stock colour | 2–5 working days |
| Glazed, stock colour | 6–10 working days |
| RAL colours | Around 2 weeks |
| Woodgrain finishes | 4–6 weeks |
We deliver on our own fleet, with our own drivers, and you get a delivery date when you order.
Hardware and testing
The rollers and hinges carry the weight of the glass, so they decide whether the doors still fold easily years from now. Ask for each system's tested results. The Cortizo Bifold has passed PAS 24 security testing and is Class A3 for wind resistance.
The guarantee
Our guarantee covers the aluminium profile and powder coating for 10 years, sealed glass units for 5 years, and locks, hardware and handles for 1 year. Like most, it assumes correct installation and maintenance every six months. Compare the terms, not just the headline years.
If you're still deciding between door types, our guide to aluminium sliding doors covers the main alternative, and our comparison of bifold door systems sets out how the main brands differ.
