What size bi-fold doors do I need for a garden room?

Most garden rooms use 3-panel configurations (up to 3,600mm wide) or 4-panel (up to 4,800mm wide). For larger garden rooms or open-plan studios, we manufacture up to 7 panels and 8,400mm wide. We'll size to your exact opening — just send dimensions or drawings.

Do bi-fold doors work for unheated garden rooms?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Aluminium bi-fold doors are weather-sealed and fully thermally broken, so they're suitable for both heated (habitable) and unheated garden rooms. For habitable garden rooms requiring Building Regulations sign-off, our doors achieve U-values from 1.5 W/m²K double glazed and 1.1 W/m²K triple glazed. Your building control body will tell you the figure it needs; ask us for the calculated U-value for your door.

How long is the lead time for garden room bi-fold doors?

Unglazed bi-fold doors in standard colours are typically ready in 2–5 working days. Glazed doors take 6–10 working days, RAL colour finishes around 2 weeks, and bespoke woodgrain finishes 4–6 weeks. We'll give you a delivery date when you place your order.

Do I need planning permission for bi-fold doors on a garden room?

Garden rooms themselves usually fall under Permitted Development if under 30m² and used for ancillary purposes. The bi-fold doors don't change that — but you should always check with your local planning authority, especially if you're in a conservation area or near a listed building.

We also offer the full RAL palette (~2 week lead time) and woodgrain finishes (4–6 weeks). All finishes are powder-coated to QUALICOAT standards for long-term durability.

Both. Order glazed and we supply factory-fitted 28mm double-glazed units (or 44mm triple). Order unglazed for the fastest lead time (5 days) and source your own glass — popular with trade installers with specific glazing specifications.
